Based on the workwear tradition, the straight-cut work jacket has gone from a practical garment worn by the working class to an everyday item for city-dwellers, as a solid alternative made to last a lifetime.

The original worker's jacket – or le bleu de travail – dates back to the 18th century in France, albeit more similar to an overshirt than a coat, it was designed to be worn by labourers in fields and farms. Originally made from combed cotton or wool to protect the labourers from the elements and withstand the wear and tear of manual labor, it was crafted for ease of movement when it came to physical tasks. Traditionally cut with a boxy fit to allow its wearers ease of movement while operating machinery, it came always with 3 or more exterior patch pockets for storing tools and the like.
